At one portion of my life, I turned every need or opportunity to travel into an expedition, including additional stops and seeing things unrelated to the goal destination of the trip. Almost all of these were done driving, many of them alone, with a few oddities, although the last three major ones have involved flying to a distant city and renting a car to travel about. Some of these have already been documented here to varying degrees links will be included. |

| 1960-61-62 | Not special trips, drove with mother in her Buick Electra convertible Crystal Lake to Cambridge, drove VW Beetle gift from parents to M.I.T. with second CLCHS student to be admitted. Drove back through Canada and had accident after leaving M.I.T. |

August 1962 |
First long solo trip - In VW Beetle with triangle camper box over back - Ames Iowa to Salt Lake City down to Canyon Lands NP, Las Vegas at night while crossing desert, Santa Barbara to see Tanya Atwater, up coast highway to Crater Lake, pickup hitchhiker, stay at his house in Seattle, Seattle Worlds Fair, east to Grand Coulee Dam and special tour, rise out of valley into flat wheat fields, east to Badlands after Labor Day and back to Iowa State. |
| 1964-65 | During spring break both years, I drove Ames to Aspen for skiing and practiced in large very warm springs pool to the horror of Naiads adviser because of role I had in swim show a couple of weeks after. |
| January 66? | Drove to Berea for Christmas Country Dance School several times, last time came home find house had burned inside and mom and dad were in hospital. |
| ? | Jane and I drove somebody to San Diego in her car and met Virginia then came back by bus. |

Summer? 1968 |
Jane and I drove VW squareback? from Lawton to Montreal for Worlds Fair, getting caught camping in driveway, back to CL. Partly following route of people who stole billfold. |

| 1969 Spring | Drive rented camper from Illinois? to Missouri then to New Orleans and back up and over to Dallas and return to ? to check out residencies for Jane |
| 1970 Spring | I drove reconditioned school bus, partly set up as camper so we could move in it later, Des Moines to Knoxville(?), Jane flew in, went up in Smokies then to shoreline near Kitty Hawk and up to Washington and she flew home. I drove to New Jersey, then to Newport RI to see elderly pen pal from Folk Festival, engine fails, replaced after shipping cats home, drive to Yankee Atomic - closed - but blow out clutch installed backward - towed out, clutch repaired at roadside station, get to Corning, miss weekend of Sailplaning . Drive home. |
| Load bus and square back with all goods, I drive bus, Jane drives VW, to move to Dallas, park in Dallas Theatre Center lot while looking for housing, find DTC is not what I want for MFA, drop out after checking out SMU. | |
| 1975? | Drive from Dallas to California via Vale with skiing in winter for ATA planning, then drive to San Diego? for ATA convention for ATA Playwright's workshop |

| 1980 August | Long loop, temp 114 as I drove past Wichita Falls, to Jackson Hole, Firth ID, Oregon, Crater Lake, Ashland?, Yosemite, San Diego, back to Dallas. |
| After flying out to Midland to drive back to Dallas Julia Bedell's car with her and her kids driving in from Tucson, I take kids in school bus camper to Big Bend, Ft. Davis, Observatory, Carlsbad, NM lava, up to Four Corners and pueblo, then down to Flagstaff for 4th (no fireworks) and into Grand Canyon from east end (order?) back through Petrified Forest, then fast drive east to meet Julia in Oklahoma and return her kids.. | |
| Bus to Isle Royal from Upper Michigan with Roland Bedell, bus towed by pickup weight tow truck in Iowa. | |

| 1995 May | Ashville for GAS Conference, camping, trail in Mississippi, decide to apply at Elliott's or other hardware and get out of programming My Visit |
| 1997 April | Tucson for GAS Conference - fly and rent minivan to visit studios, sleeping in van or near it and camping out, My Visit |
| 1998 April | Texas Tour of glass related museums and studios - TAMU, Austin, Wimberly, Scarborough Faire, Pottsboro, Dallas. |
| 1999 Sept | Corning NY for Glass Mold Blowing Workshop, Soaring Hill, start of Lyme disease neuropathy. |
| 2003 June | Fly to Seattle to GAS Conference, rent car to get around, fly to Victoria BC to see Virginia and sights. My Visit |
| 2004 | For vacation, fly to Newark, rent camper, tour state, Seeing Eye 75th, lose harness, retrace path, damage camper which is also flawed, extra money and delay, Millville Glass Museum. NJ Trip |
| 2005 Aug | For 45th High School reunion, Louise Kelly, and Glass, fly to Minneapolis, rent car, drive to Austin MN, Waukon IA, Madison, Milwaukee, Chicago, and Crystal Lake. Then to Indianola and Ames and back up to Minneapolis to return car and meet Betty. North in her car to glass and a pottery place then Carrington ND, and up to Ely seeing sights. Then back down to Minneapolis and fly home. Upper Midwest |
