Seeing Eye Visit
New Jersey Glass
Trip Plan/Problems
The trip was a muddling, grinding
misadventure with a few high points. Took over 150 total. Didn't
take pictures of motor home that broke down. This page had the primary purpose of showing my wife to her family in good spirits and in interesting places and showing how she fit, plus a few places we visited. Note the picture of her with her guide dog at the beach. It is hard to see her face, but it is clearly a person at the (ocean) beach showing a relationship - she is a little stiff and (to me) seems hesitant, fully dressed with bare feet so she is not going in far. In fact, this is the very first time in her life she has been on an ocean beach and has no idea what walking into the waves will feel like, but hears the sound of moving waves and water soaking into the sand (she is blind.) A key part of the trip was to provide just this moment. |
First goal, get Gigi to the ocean, which she said she had not seen even living in Houston. So we went to the beach east of Allaire State park and after touching the surging water, G took off her shoes and waded in while I held them and her dog Dolly (thus no shots of her in the water.) |
Although she is not in the picture, image at Allaire with the (fake) wedding party passing the blacksmith's is in order. |
Goal number two - the boardwalk in Atlantic City and a bit of gambling. Both went well. |
Added goal number three: On the ocean. After a long expensive trip to replace the missing dog harness, we got on the ferry from Cape May at the southern tip of NJ and crossed to Delaware, 3 hours round trip. |
As we head out to the ocean - calmly. |
This was the highlight for me - Wheaton Village and the glass museum there. Many images of which this is one. |
At Bull Run State Park there is a foot bridge across the Delaware so here is Gigi walking to Pennsylvania and then walking back. | |
At the Seeing Eye, this statue of Mr. Debetaz, the director of training when Gigi got her first dog, who worked for 42 years. Has this statue facing the entrance below. |
The entrance to the Eye. |
The monumental tent set up for the dinner. |
David Loux, who now does promotional work for the Eye. More pictures at the Eye |
Gigi and me under the tent. |
Another view of the tent interior. |
On the last day we fitted in a visit to Washington's headquarters in Morristown. |
Gigi on the path from the headquarters. |
Gigi in the hall of the headquarters. |

Note, the wedding carriage at the blacksmith shot, which was intended to catch those two and none of the people. Note the picture of her with her guide dog at the beach.
